Erik’s winter choir concert was last night. He has been practicing twice a week, for months, before school. I try and attend as many practices as I can and help keep the students focused.Read More
Friday morning was Mission Avenue's Culmination Day. This is the day that every grade gives a short performance to celebrate the annual theme. The theme for this year is Ocean. Erik's class sang a sweet song about the ocean and Erik was chosen to stand out in front and dance. It was great. It felt a little lonely without Casey there and his friends and their parents. We've got four more years at this fantastic school. We are going to live it up!!
Today is Casey's first day as a seventh grader at Arden Middle School. Erik is now in the third grade. Casey had orientation on Tuesday. He was fighting jet lag and Brochitis but he did it all with a huge a smile. Yesterday he organized his locker and walked around campus locating all of his classes.
Middle school starts at 7:40 a.m. He was up this morning, bright and early, raring to go. Mama Melanie picked him up at 7:05 a.m.
You guys!! Look at how small they were!! They are four-years-old here!
Erik was excited about starting third grade this morning. School starts at 8:10 a.m. for him, so he had to time to eat his breakfast slowly. I wasn't able to get a picture of them together. Maybe later today they will let me take one.
Erik was super happy to see his buddies!
Looks like Erik is going to have a fantastic year! Hope everyone has a great day! Hugs and love to you.
P.S. I know today was super exciting but we are GETTING A PUPPY on SATURDAY!!! I cannot wait to share pictures and video with you all. My heart may just EXPLODE!!!! She was born on June 27th. She is part poodle and havanese.
Casey graduated from sixth grade tonight. Academically, Casey is SO ready for junior high. He is a responsible student. He doesn't wait to the last minute to finish his work, so I know he will be fine. I'm sure having multiple classes will take some getting used to, but I'm not worried about that either. We hope he comes to us with concerns or social group stuff that is bound to surface in middle school. But even if he doesn't, we will just keep telling him that we are here for him, no matter what. We have loved Casey's experience at Mission Avenue. We hope to know his friends and their families for a long time. Seven years of field trips, friends and fun.
This year has had its fair share of struggle. We continue to love him through tough stuff and always will. It is privilege to watch Casey grow into a young man. It is a privilege that our dear friends don't have. I never EVER want to take these moments for granted.
During graduation, Casey introduced his lead guitar group last night and performed a few solo's. He was great. I am so proud of him! We are so looking forward to encouraging and loving him as much as we can every step of the way.

The Apex program teaches leadership and fitness to students who are raising pledges for the Fun Run. This year's character theme is Apex Legends, where students will follow Tikes, Seeds, Specs, Jazz, and Wheels through the pages of their legendary adventure to discover JJ Cortez’s hidden treasure. Along the way these five friends discover what it truly means to be a Legendary leader:
- Learn – Every moment is an opportunity to learn
- Engage – Get involved and keep your focus on what’s important
- Give – Always be looking to give your treasures, talents, and time
- Empower – Use your words to encourage and lift people up
- Never Quit – Times get tough but leaders never quit
- Do – Just do it! Go out and be the best you can be
Mission Avenue students are raising pledges for the laps they run (between 26 and 36, 36-lap max). Each lap is 1/16th of a mile. For instance, $1 per lap means $30 dollars total pledged if the student runs 30 laps. Our school has a goal of reaching $3 per lap for each student, or $90 simple donations. The majority of the funds raised this year will pay for teacher support and technology upgrades. However, the school has promised that an additional 10% of whatever we raise in each class goes directly to that teacher to use in their own classroom.
